April Bomb Cyclone in Evergreen?
4/13/2022 (Permalink)
In March of 2019, the perfect conditions presented themselves to create “bombogenesis,” or a bomb cyclone that hit the Central United States from the Rockies across all of the Plains into the Upper Mississippi Valley that brought blizzard conditions, severe thunderstorms, and isolated flooding.
Our Golden, Wheat Ridge, and Evergreen team has been restoring storm damage for Evergreen residents for many years. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), bombogenesis occurs when:
- A mid-latitude cyclone, or a “bomb cyclone,” rapidly intensifies over a 24-hour period
- Most of the time, they accelerate and strengthen over the ocean as its central pressure drops at least 24 millibars in 24 hours
- Bombogenesis causes high, intense winds that can cause power outages
- They can cause blizzard conditions with heavy, blowing snow and white-out conditions
- Rainfall on snow that can cause river flooding
April may bring more severe weather, so make sure you’re prepared.
