Colorado thundersnow is a thing?

Yes, it is. My neighbor referred me to the restoration team in Wheat Ridge after a tree fell on my house after it was struck by lightning during a thundersnow storm. The team arrived quickly and removed the tree and tarped the roof, and boarded up the broken windows to prevent secondary damage from occurring from exposure. The next day they came back and repaired the roof damage and replaced the broken glass. Now you would never know there was any storm damage to my home!

March is a big snow month for Colorado, and thundersnow occurs here when there is a strong instability pattern in the atmosphere combined with moisture from a warm front. Although thundersnow is rare in most parts of the world, it is pretty common in Colorado. Thundersnow storms are similar to thunderstorms, except lightning occurs when it is snowing rather than when it is raining. Thundersnow storms are so unusual that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration monitors this weird weather via satellite!
