Fire Escape Planning in Evergreen?
11/10/2021 (Permalink)
Evergreen families and residents need to know!
Once a fire starts, it can spread quickly. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), you should have smoke alarms installed in every room and outside of each room in your home. Smoke alarms should also be installed on every floor of your house and be interconnected so when one alarm sounds, they all sound. Once the smoke detectors sound, you may only have a few minutes to get out of the house. SERVPRO® of Golden/Wheat Ridge/Evergreen offers these tips from the NFPA for making a fire escape plan.
- Draw a map of your home
- Show all doors and windows
- Visit each room
- Find two ways out
- All windows and doors should open easily
- You should be able to use them to get outside
- Make sure your home has smoke alarms
- Push the test button to make sure each alarm is working
- Pick a meeting place outside. It should be in front of your home. Everyone will meet at the meeting place.
- Make sure your house or building number can be seen from the street
- Talk about your plan with everyone in your home
- Learn the emergency phone number for your fire department
- Practice your home fire drill!
