Every water loss has unique features. Was there standing water? How much water? How long was it in contact with walls? Flooring? Trim? Carpet? How much damage to these surfaces occurred? Will it be necessary to remove some of the surfaces? Why must they be removed?
When excess water is in continued contact with carpeting the carpet may delaminate. This occurs when the water weakens the bond of glues holding the carpet together rendering the carpet non-salvageable.
If the carpet is unaffected but still wet, the carpet may be lifted so air can circulate below it more efficiently and the carpet pad may be removed to aide drying. The carpet pad alone can hold up to 60% of all the water! Once the room becomes dry our technicians will re-lay the existing carpeting as needed.
Drywall that has become too wet begins to act like a sponge and wicks the moisture up the wall, higher than the actual water line. Upon reaching such levels of moisture the wet drywall is removed to speed the drying process and as a preventative measure against possible mold growth. It is wise to let our trained technicians remove the damaged drywall. Asbestos testing is required by the state of Colorado before the removal of drywall materials. If the drywall is removed by the homeowner and is later found to contain asbestos, there is a high probability of the whole home being contaminated with asbestos.
Flooring such as tile, hardwood and laminates can appear dry even if water has seeped below the surface. Our professional technicians use moisture meters and infrared cameras to gauge the hidden moisture. The flooring will need to be pulled up if it is found to be covering bound water. Without removal these layers can begin to buckle or warp and in worst case scenarios begin to harbor mold growth, all the while preventing your home from reaching an acceptable measure of dry.
When the structure is once again dry our work is through and the rebuilding/repair work can begin.
