What Can I Do if I Have Skunk Odor in My Home in Evergreen?

1/24/2023 (Permalink)

We locate, identify, and remove offensive odors in Jefferson County.

Our local team in Golden, Wheat Ridge, and Evergreen is trained and certified to remove foul odors of all kinds. Sometimes odors are difficult to identify because they are a combination of smells emanating from different locations. Our technicians will locate and identify the cause of the odors and will use odor removal products capable of penetrating surfaces to neutralize an unpleasant odor thoroughly.

Skunks are common in Evergreen neighborhoods. My dog got sprayed by a skunk and ran into the house afterward, contaminating the entire home with skunk odor. Here are some tips for avoiding being sprayed by a skunk (if you’re not a dumb dog).

Spraying Signals

  • Skunks are nocturnal, so be cautious when walking at night
  • If you see a skunk while walking at night, change direction and avoid walking in his path
  • A skunk that is startled will be ready to spray by raising the tail
  • The skunk will stand on its hind legs and then pound the front legs toward the ground
  • If you find a skunk and it is acting in this manner, back away quietly and slowly so that you can get away without being sprayed

The Holidays are here.  Many of us are busy buying last minute gifts, curating our dinner menus, and frantically cleaning the house for the few guests we may be having over this season.  We never expect a disaster to strike on a holiday.  But the truth is, we are even more vulnerable to a fire or flood in our home during this time.

Consider, you are cooking roasted veggies in the oven for Christmas dinner.  While you wait for the carrots, onions, brussel sprouts, and potatoes to soften and brown you decide to have a few glasses of eggnog.  One glass leads to two, leads to three, leads to you completely forgetting you were cooking in the first place.  The butter from the pan spills over and poof! The oven is roaring with flames.  Or how about your 4 year old niece decides to flush the vegetables she doesn't want to eat down the toilet and causes a sewer back up in the basement.

Additionally, we use more electricity and more water during the holidays, with guests in the home, christmas lights strung all along the roof, and the massive amount of cooking we do for celebration.  Disasters do not wait for a better time to come.  Thankfully, SERVPRO of Golden, Wheat Ridge, Evergreen is a 24/7 365 day team.  We understand that a fast response is critical in a fire or flood situation. We are dedicated to responding immediately, day or night, to your Golden area home.  A fast response helps to minimize secondary damage to your home.

Mold Vs. Mildew: The Difference

Mildew setting in on a pumpkin. SERVPRO of Golden, Wheat Ridge, Evergreen can help with Mold and mildew in your home.

Mold Vs. Mildew: The difference

Home is where the heart is, and where the health should be too.  After a long day at the office, on errands, or out on vacation, coming home to our own clean, comforting, healthy environment can’t be beat.  The last thing we want to worry about is mold in the home negatively affecting our wellbeing.  This is especially true the more time we spend in our homes, working, social distancing, and the like.  Even if you are not a home body, we spend about 8 hours sleeping in our homes each night.  That amount of time adds up fast over the weeks, months, and years.  If there is mold in the home, you are exposing yourself to that mold every minute you are at home. It is important to identify if there is mold in your home, office, or anywhere you spend a significant amount of time.  So, that brings us to telling the difference between mold and mildew.

Mildew is a relatively harmless substance that grows on plants and wet materials such as leather or wood.  It is white or light gray in color distinguishing it from its harmful relative mold.  Typically, mold is black, pink, green, blue, yellow, or essentially any color but that mildew white.

Types of Common Household Molds

Now that you can tell what is mold and what is mildew, it's time to pick out the different molds that may be growing in the home. While there are more than 10,000 different types of molds, here are our top 5 to spot in your Golden, Wheat Ridge, or Evergreen home.

Alternaria: This type of mold can be found both indoors and outdoors.  It's commonly in damp areas like sinks, showers, tubs, and in dark damp areas outside the home.

Aureobasidium: This mold can be found around windows, in caulk, wooden furniture and surfaces, and painted or wallpapered walls.

Chaetomium: This mold is very common to see in our line of work.  It shows up in drywall after a water loss has occurred.

Penicillium: A mold found in insulation, furnishings, furniture that has been damaged by water, carpeting, and more.  It is particularly known for spreading quickly throughout the home.

Stachybotrys Chartarum or “Black Mold”: One of the most dangerous household molds due to its extreme toxicity. It can be found in crawl spaces, air ducts, and basements. It is known for its color (black) and its earthy, musty odor.

Removing Mildew

Removing mildew from your home does not require professional help.  It can easily be eliminated using a cleaning solution such as vinegar, and a scrubber.  However, mold should be handled by a restoration professional since it is a trickier substance to get rid of and the spores spread easily without proper care.  Containment methods are vital to put in place so that millions of airborne particles do not spread from the growing mold.

Our 7 Step Process for removing Mold in your Foothills Home

Step 1: Emergency Contact (303) 279-8055

The mold cleanup and restoration process begins when you call our 24-hour team. Our specialist will ask a series of questions to help us determine the necessary equipment, resources, and personnel.

Step 2: Inspection and Mold Damage Assessment

Our Technicians at SERVPRO of Golden, Wheat Ridge, Evergreen will carefully inspect your property for signs of mold. Mold feeds on cellulose and water and can be hidden from plain view. They use various technologies to detect mold and hidden water sources.

Step 3: Mold Containment

They use various containment procedures to prevent the spread of mold. They may use advanced containment procedures like negative air chambers to isolate the contaminated area with physical barriers and negative air pressure to keep the mold spores from spreading during the cleanup process. All fans and heating and cooling systems will be turned off to prevent the spread of mold.

Step 4: Air Filtration

Their specialized filtration equipment allows their Professionals to capture microscopic mold spores out of the air. They utilize powerful “air scrubbers” and HEPA vacuums to prevent the spread of these mold spores while the mold remediation is in process.

Step 5: Removing Mold and Mold-Infested Materials

The mold remediation process depends on the amount of mold growth and the types of surfaces on which the mold appears. We use antifungal and antimicrobial treatments to eliminate mold colonies and to help prevent new colonies from forming. Removing and disposing of mold-infested porous materials, like drywall and carpeting, may be necessary to remediate heavy mold growth.

Step 6: Cleaning Contents and Belongings

SERVPRO cleans your furniture, decorative items, curtains, clothing, and other restorable items affected by mold. They use a variety of cleaning techniques to clean and sanitize your belongings. They’re also trained to remove odors and deodorization using fogging equipment.

Step 7: Restoration

Depending on the level of mold damage, drywall, subfloors, and other building materials may be removed. Restoration may involve minor repairs, such as replacing drywall, painting, and installing new carpet; or it may entail major repairs such as the reconstruction of various areas or rooms in a home or business.

Why Choose SERVPRO of Golden/ Wheat Ridge/ Evergreen

SERVPRO Mitigates and Remediates Mold

9/24/2020 (Permalink)

SERVPRO of Golden, Wheat Ridge, Evergreen remediates mold in your home, office, or anywhere you can think of!

Got Mold?

What is that smell?  Gosh, it smells like wet and sitting food.  Where is it coming from? Under the sink? Yes.  Oh yes.  Oh shoot, there is a leak from the sink pipe! You fix the leak no problem, but now there is black mold growing underneath.  This won't be as easy as replacing the P-trap.  Cleaning mold requires special technique, cleaning products, and care.

Any home or business can quickly become infested with mold when water is introduced to the environment.  Things such as roof leaks, basement floods, plumbing leaks (see above description), and other things of this nature can spread mold in as little as 48-72 hours! It is so important to mitigate any water in your home or business at first sight so molds cannot grow and thrive.

In this blog, we will discuss what mold is, how it can grow in your home, how to prevent mold from growing, what we can do to help in a mold situation, and more.

What is Mold?

Mold is a general term for fungi that comes in many forms.  There are countless forms of mold, possibly tens of thousands of differing strains, but no one knows for sure the exact count.  It can grow indoors or outdoors and be black, brown, yellow, pink, or green in color. Often it is fuzzy and can smell quite awful.  Moisture is required for mold to grow actively, and when it does, it damages whatever it may be growing on.  That could mean your carpets, floors, walls, furniture, shower, or other materials.  These items with actively growing mold are being structurally damaged by the growth.

Common Areas for Mold Growth in the Home

First off, a small amount of mold in your everyday life is inescapable.  Tiny microscopic mold spores are present everywhere indoor and outdoor.  You are probably breathing in those tiny itty-bitty spores right now.  Getting rid of all of these spores is impossible.  They are a part of our nature.  So, if a company ever claims to remove all mold from the home, that is a fallacy! A good restoration company knows they just need to remediate the big and harmful molds.

So, how do you know if you have mold in your home? You will be able to see it! Often, you can smell it as mentioned before. However, it may be hiding, so checking the common areas and the not so common areas for mold will help ensure you are spotting it all.

The Shower or Tub: continual use of these areas makes them damp majority of the time.  The obvious places to look for mold would be the corners of the showers, ceilings, and walls.  The not so obvious places to look would be on shampoo bottles, washcloths, loofahs, the shower curtain, and the shower head.

Sink and Toilet: the wet nature of these areas makes them prone to mold.  Surface areas are the obvious places to check for mold.  The not so obvious are the toothbrush caddies, tank of the toilet, all of the pipes, and behind or underneath the sink.

The kitchen: water, food, grease, etc. all live in the kitchen which means mold can too.  Check in, on, and under the kitchen sink, the refrigerator and pantry, microwave and stove.  The not so obvious would be the bottom of your trashcans, wooden cutting boards, window sills, and anywhere food may fall through a crack.

The Bedroom: ceilings, walls, and window sills, may be the more obvious areas for this room.  The not so obvious would be heating and cooling systems and on your mattress!

Other Places: chimneys and fireplaces, indoor plants, couches, curtains, upholstery, and anywhere where moisture may have been.

How to Prevent Mold Growth

Keep humidity to a minimum.  It is recommended to keep them no greater than 50% at all times. However, changes in moisture levels and temperatures change throughout the day, so the levels will need to be checked and managed throughout.

Ventilate! Makes sure your home and each room has enough ventilation so moisture doesn’t stay.  Use exhaust fans and be sure that your dryer is vented outside of your home.

Fix leaks.  Look for leaking on your roof, walls, or plumbing systems. Without water, mold cannot grow.

Clean up and dry out home using your local SERVPRO franchise after water damage (within 24-48 hours).

Add mold inhibitors to paints before painting.

Remove or replace any carpets or upholstery that have been soaked and cannot be dried in time.  Also consider not using carpets in areas with a lot of moisture such as bathrooms.

What to do in the Event of Mold

  • Stay out of the affected area.
  • Turn off HVAC and fans.
  • Call SERVPRO of Golden/ What Ridge/ Evergreen.

What not to do in the Event of Mold

  • Do not touch or disturb the mold.
  • Do not blow air on any surface that contains mold.
  • Do not dry the area yourself.
  • Do not bleach or disinfect the mold.

Our Remediation Service

Our team at SERVPRO of Golden/ Wheat Ridge/ Evergreen has the skills, training, experience, and specialized equipment needed for mold mitigation and remediation. Our techniques are approved by the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification).

                        Direct Spraying:

We use hand pumps or power sprayers to apply specialized chemicals and disinfectants to the affected areas in your Evergreen, Wheat Ridge, Golden, or surrounding homes. This method will wet the area, so we are sure to only use this method on surfaces that cannot be discolored.

                        Wet Fogging:

ULV (ultra low volume) foggers are used to disperse disinfectants and deodorizers to the area.  These foggers create tiny particles that can penetrate into just about anything.  However, this creates additional moisture, so the technicians at your home, office, or she-shed, will remove all furniture and other items that could be damaged by this method. If there are some items that cannot be removed, drapes will be placed over them for protection.

                        Dry Fogging:

This technique, also called thermal fogging, is used when there is mold, but little to no water damage.  This uses solvent based cleaners and deodorants that are heated and pushed through a vaporizer. This process changes the particles into so they are small enough to penetrate almost any surface.  Since there is no moisture added, this is the preferred method we use whenever it is possible.

                        Ventilation and Air Scrubbing:

As the different methods of cleaning are underway, the rooms and other affected areas must be ventilated.  Our team has high velocity exhaust fans, called box fans, that blow out mold particles.  This is done so that the mold particles that release in the cleaning process are captured and removed. This reduces the amount of time the area needs to be vacant and allows occupants into their homes quicker.

Not only do the walls, ceilings, personal items, or whatever was affected need to be cleaned, but the air does too!  HEPA (high-efficiency particle air) filters are used to aid in the removal of mold spores and its odor from the air.  They work extremely well in the removal of the dirty air and filtering back clean air to the room.

Our Process in 7 easy steps

Each mold situation is unique and will require its own specific steps in the remediation process. However, we 7 simple steps for a typical mold damage job.  Here it is below so you may better understand what will take place and when.

  • Step 1: Emergency Contact (303) 279-8055
  • Step 2: Inspection and Mold Damage Assessment
  • Step 3: Mold Containment
  • Step 4: Air Filtration
  • Step 5: Removing Mold and Mold-Infested Materials
  • Step 6: Cleaning Contents and Belongings
  • Step 7: Restoration

Cleaning in a Time of Covid

7/29/2020 (Permalink)

Wearing mask, washing hands, or doing a full disinfecting clean. SERVPRO is here to help stop the spread of Covid-19.

SERVPRO and the Virus

In the United States, we have been dealing with Covid-19 since the spring.  The spread of the virus and its affects look like they are going to leak into the fall and possibly even into next year.  What once turned our lives upside down has now become the new normal.  We all wear masks when out in public.  We stay home more.  There are no large gatherings of any type.  However, businesses have re-opened and people are trying to go out and about which means there is still risk of infection.

This outbreak is ever evolving and a continual process.  We as individuals try to do our part, and all of us here at SERVPRO of Golden/Wheat Ridge/Evergreen are doing our part to stop the spread as well.  As a cleaning and restoration team, we are trained to the highest standards of cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting.  We have specialized equipment, industrial strength products, and strict protocol.  As the situation has increased in severity, we have gone out to clean and sanitize schools, homes, and businesses.

The following blog explains what SERVPRO of Golden/Wheat Ridge/Evergreen is doing to stop the spread of this virus and how you can utilize our services to keep you and your families healthy during this outbreak.  It talks about our safety measures, our 3 levels of cleaning, and some high touch surfaces to consider when cleaning and disinfecting.

A Quick Note About Covid-19

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans. CDC is responding to an outbreak of respiratory disease caused by a novel (new) coronavirus that was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China and which has now (as of this publication) been detected in 60 locations internationally, including cases in the United States. The virus has been named “SARS-CoV-2” and the disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”). The CDC has setup a Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Situation Summary page to provide updated information as it becomes available, in addition to updated guidance.

PPE: Personal Protective Equipment

When SERVPRO arrives on the scene, the technicians will be decked out in personal protective equipment, or PPEs.  This will include ventilators, full-body suits, eye protection, and gloves.  They will look like ghostbusters, but you can call them Covid-19 busters.  The PPEs are worn to protect our employees from potential hazards during the job.  Likewise, they prevent any transfer of germs from the tech to the facility.  Proper disposal of the protective gear is also done with a sharp protocol.

The 3 levels of clean: Cleaning, Sanitizing, and Disinfecting

After we arrive fully wrapped up in protective gear, we start cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting.  When people think of a cleaning team, they don’t realize there are varying levels of “clean.”

  1. Cleaning: Cleaning is defined by physically removing visible dirt, viruses, fungi, and bacteria. General surface cleaning is accomplished with water, detergent, and physical scrubbing of the surface itself.  The guiding principle is to remove microbes from the surface rather than killing them. Thoroughly cleaning a surface can drastically reduce the need to disinfect because without the nutrients and moisture needed to survive and multiply, most microbes cannot live on a clean and dry surface for very long.  This level of cleaning would take place in a normal spring clean around the house without the worry of serious virus infection.
  1. Sanitizing: Reduces but does not necessarily eliminate all bacteria on a treated surface. Think of the phrase “kills 99.9% of germs”. Sanitizers do not actually have claims for viruses or fungi.  To be a registered sanitizer, the test results for the product must reduce each type of bacteria by at least the 99.9% on non-food-contact surfaces.  Examples of these would be carpet sanitizers, air sanitizers, laundry additives, and in-tank toilet bowl sanitizers.
  1. Disinfecting: Works by using chemicals to kill germs on surfaces. This does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove germs. Disinfecting destroys or irreversibly inactivates infectious or other undesirable microbes, but does not necessarily kill the spores of bacteria and fungi.

During cleaning of facilities at this time, all three levels of cleaning will be diligently implemented by our technicians.

What Surfaces to consider Cleaning and Disinfecting

At SERVPRO of Golden/Wheat Ridge/Evergreen, we have a list of areas and items to clean in a facility that are considered high touch. Whether the facility is a house, a restaurant, classroom, office, etc. here is a good reference list when doing your own cleaning and disinfecting.  The list may seem extensive, but it is all of the areas and items we would hit when servicing an area at minimum.

SERVPRO of Golden/ Wheat Ridge/ Evergreen Helps Stop the Spread of Coronavirus

SERVPRO and the Virus

Coronavirus, or Covid-19, hit the United States and turned our realities upside down.  The most recent update stated 131 cases of Coronavirus in Colorado alone, with one of those cases resulting in death.  People are gutting grocery stores, buying out the food, sanitizing materials, and buying toilet paper.  Thousands have canceled travel, sporting events have been canceled for spectators, as well as many events around Denver and throughout Colorado under cancellation.  As spring quickly approaches people are not coming out of hiding in their homes after the long winter, but planning on staying in.

This outbreak is ever evolving and continually under investigation.  As we all huddle in our homes it is an effort to flatten the curve of Covid-19.

Dark gray clouds roll over the mountains and the wind begins to whip.  All of the animals have sensed the oncoming storm and have taken to hiding.  The land is empty beyond its rustling trees and long grasses.  Finally, the rain begins to spit down and lightening streaks the sky.  It’s an ordinary day in Golden, Colorado, and it’s not a particularly bad storm.  Residents and passer-byers wouldn’t think much of the event.  In fact, everyone was going cheerfully on with their day knowing the storm would soon pass quickly, as they all do in the Front Range.  However, the one thing no one expected was to have that bright lightening find its way to the ground and strike a lonely tree off of Rooney Road.  But, that is precisely what happened.

Now, on this ordinary day, the SERVPRO Team of Golden, Wheat Ridge, Evergreen was out on a job.  They were headed to a fire loss in Golden when they stumbled upon a burning tree. The two SERVPRO employees didn’t hesitate a beat when they saw this.  They quickly pulled over to the side of the quiet road and sprang into action. They ran to the back of the bright green truck, extracted two shovels, and ran straight towards the flaming pine.  The two young men had no fear of the situation at hand.  Their instinct was save the tree and save the land.  They began digging into the hard earth to pull up as much dirt as they could muster and throw it onto the flames.  They worked vigorously and fast! And in no time, the flames were diminished.  All that was left was the hot smoke billowing into the darkened sky.  The SERVPRO employees put out the fire before the fire department or the Jeffco Sheriff could make it to the scene.  The fire was not able to spread beyond those piney branches and the young men drove away as hero’s.  Now, that is a whole new type of fire specialization!

What happened that day taught all of us here at SERVPRO of Golden, Wheat Ridge, Evergreen a lesson on integrity.  How you do anything is how you do everything.  The boys could have passed the tree and simply called the fire department to take care of it. They wouldn’t have spent any of their time on the situation and could get their required job done and out of the way faster.  That would have been the easy way out.  But, they didn’t do that.  They did everything they possibly could, put out the fire, waited for the professionals to show up, and then went on their way to work. It was impressive and inspiring.

After that day, we all started to look for things we could improve beyond the typical work routine.  If the snack section started to get messy, someone would clean it up. Customer service went through the roof, and all of the small things made for an improved work environment. Everyone felt good about doing their best and helping others.  SERVPRO was no longer just a restoration team.  We are so much more than that.  We are heroes!

We take scary situations and turn them into a positive experience for people.  Having your Golden home catch fire or flood is a horrifying event.  A lot is lost in destructive flames or damaging waters.  SERVPRO comes in to save as much as we can.  We have done it so many times we are comfortable in our expertise, and customers find a solace in our help.  It has become our civic duty to help when disaster strikes!

In the remainder of the blog, we would like to highlight some of our restoration processes, whether it be mold mitigation, fire restoration, or flood restoration, we have your back!

Fire

            Damage Restoration

  • Structural Cleaning
    • The first step in the remediation of a fire is structural cleaning. After fire and smoke has made its mark on your home, ceilings, walls, flooring, and woodwork will need a thorough cleaning.  After the pretest, our SERVPRO team of Golden, Wheat Ridge, Evergreen will use the appropriate cleaning chemicals for the type of smoke and specific surface it is on.  Often times, our specifically designed chemicals can completely remove the damaging smoke from the structure so that repainting or refinishing is not necessary, saving you money.  If we cannot clean the surface completely, we will restore it to a “prepare for paint” condition.  This process deodorizes and ensures that the new coat of paint will adhere properly.
  • Content Cleaning
    • Area rugs, furniture, draperies, upholstery, and all restorable personal items in the affected areas will be professionally cleaned and deodorized. Some items can be cleaned onsite, but many are packed up and cleaned in-house. The type of cleaning will be determined upon a pretest and an inventory list of all items will be made so our franchise and the home owner can keep track of them.
  • Deodorizing
    • After the structures and contents of the home have been cleaned, the home itself will also be deodorized. We do not merely mask the smells, we seek the source and eliminate it.  SERVPRO teaches IICRC technical classes in the proper removal of odors, and our specialized equipment cannot be beat.

Flood

When your Lakewood home has water damage from flooding or leaks, you need the company that can respond immediately and has the expertise and equipment to properly restore your property. SERVPRO of Golden, Wheat Ridge, Evergreen uses advanced water damage inspection and extraction equipment to help them find the moisture and to remove it as quickly as possible. Our highly trained technicians will monitor and document the drying process so that you know your property is back to normal. While every water damage situation is unique, the general process stays the same.  SERVPRO follows 6 basic steps when handling your water damage.  Below are the 6 steps taken from call to complete restoration.

Step 1 - Emergency Contact

The restoration process begins when you call us. Our representative will guide you through the crisis and may ask several questions to help us better understand the equipment and resources.

Step 2 - Inspection and Water Damage Assessment

We determine the scope of your water damage at this stage. We inspect and test to determine the extent of damage and how far the moisture has traveled to ensure proper and complete restoration.

Step 3 - Water Removal / Water Extraction

The water removal process begins almost immediately and removes the majority of the water. We use powerful pumps and vacuum units to quickly remove hundreds or thousands of gallons from your property, which helps prevent secondary water damage and mold growth.

Step 4 - Drying and Dehumidification

We use specialized equipment to remove the remaining water that is harder to access. Our Professionals will use room measurements, temperature, and relative humidity to determine the optimal number of air movers and dehumidifiers needed to dry your home or business.

Step 5 - Cleaning and Sanitizing

We clean all of the restorable items and structures damaged by the water. We are adept at cleaning contents using a number of techniques. Our professionals are trained to provide sanitizing treatments and to remove odors and deodorize your property.

Step 6 - Restoration

Restoration is the process of restoring your home or business to its pre-water damage condition. Restoration may involve minor repairs, such as replacing drywall and installing new carpet, or may entail major repairs, such as the reconstruction of various areas or rooms in a home or business.

In the event of a basement flood, it is essential that you call professional help as quickly as possible.  SERVPRO of Golden/ Wheat Ridge/ Evergreen is available 24/7 365 days a year.  After the initial call, we are required to arrive at your residence within 4 hours by franchise standards.  However, our team averages less than an hour for arrival time.  Our response time reduces damage, limits further damage, reduces cost, and eases headache and responsibility from the homeowner.

Mold

Our team at SERVPRO of Golden, Wheat Ridge, Evergreen has the skills, training, experience, and specialized equipment needed for mold mitigation and remediation. Our techniques are approved by the IICRC (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification).

                        Direct Spraying:

We use hand pumps or power sprayers to apply specialized chemicals and disinfectants to the affected areas in your Golden, or surrounding homes.

Fire, Water, Mold, Oh My!

11/19/2019 (Permalink)

Whether it is fire, water, or mold that is damaging your home, SERVPRO is here to help. We are caring, experienced, and professional.

Fire, Water, Mold, Oh My!

Fire damage, water loss, mold, oh my! These things, like the Tin Mans lions, tigers, and bears, are lurking around, waiting to attack your home or business.  The unfortunate statistics state that one in 50 insured homes will experience water damage each year, a structure fire happens every 63 seconds, a house will catch flames every 88 seconds, and 4.6 million cases of lung and breathing related illnesses happen from mold exposure in the home.  Thus, it is likely that you or someone you know will suffer from one of these this coming year.

However, you do not have to be like the Tin Man in the way of anxiety because SERVPRO of Evergreen, Wheat Ridge, and Golden has your back! It can be scary falling victim to any of the above scenarios, especially if it is your first time encountering them.  Our team has seen it all, and the biggest loss is no match for our expertise, professionalism, equipment, and care.  We personally have taken on the small jobs such as a little mold clean up in a shower, carpet cleaning, smoke damage to a small room, and more. We have also taken on the large jobs such as entire home fires, a burst pipe to an entire office building in downtown Arvada, and remediating the water damage to the entire Colorado Mills Mall after the hail damage a few years back. These are just a few examples.

In the following blog, we will highlight the three main restoration services we preform that are fire, flood, and mold damage. We will talk on the three types of cleanings we do for fire and smoke damage, our process when handling a water loss, and our 4 methods of cleaning up a mold job.

A sink that over flows and get tile wet is easy to clean without help, as is carpet that gets a bit wet. A call to SERVPRO of Golden/Wheat Ridge/Evergreen will eliminate the worries of ‘is it really dry?’ or ‘is this safe for my family?’. Our technicians are IICRC trained in the latest industry standards of water, fire or mold restoration. You can trust them to assess damaged building materials, properly contain contamination and bring your home back to normal quickly and efficiently thus limiting excessive damage and possible growing repair costs. SERVPRO ...helpful in so many ways

In February our crew was on site in Wheat Ridge, CO for a water loss. Materials had already been removed and drying equipment set, this was ‘just’ a monitoring visit. Our clients were an older couple, the wife was home while her husband ran errands. While communicating progress details to the wife, our technician noticed she looked unwell. Before he could ask if she needed help, she began dropping to the floor. Our quick reacting techs caught her before she fell and helped her to a nearby couch. Upon further questioning they realized she needed more help than just a couch. While one tech called 911 for EMT assistance, the other tech reached out to her husband. Our customer arrived safely at the hospital, her husband was able to meet her there and both were home the next day.
