Our local Golden, Wheat Ridge, and Evergreen teams are trained and certified to mitigate and restore storm damage by the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification, the certifying body for the cleaning and restoration industries. Each September the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) launches National Preparedness Month, a month dedicated to building resiliency and community preparedness for emergencies and disasters.
This year’s focus is on addressing the needs of elderly populations. The American Red Cross sites several factors that contribute to making older adults more vulnerable after disasters as follows:
- A greater likelihood to suffer from chronic conditions and the need for associated medications
- A greater reliance on assistive devices such as walkers or glasses, as well as support from caregivers and others
- An increased likelihood of social isolation
National Preparedness Month serves as a reminder of the importance of being prepared for disasters and emergencies. By raising awareness, promoting education, and encouraging proactive actions, this campaign empowers individuals, families, and communities to enhance their readiness and resilience. It is crucial for everyone to take part in this collective effort to ensure the safety and well-being of ourselves and those around us when faced with unexpected events.
